iLife 101

Apple’s iLife software consists of five components, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, and iDVD.
iPhoto allows users to organize photos by events, create a MobileMe Gallery online where visitors can download your photos and upload their own to your collection, edit photos, and create calendars and books. All of these features are easy to use, and can be as basic or as complex as the user sees fit.
iMovie might be one of the most valuable and engaging tools in elementary classrooms. iMovie allows amateur video makers to use the available features to import and edit video, record video and sound, skim and play video, add titles, transitions, and music, make movies, and easily export files to YouTube or MobileMe.
GarageBand allows users to create soundtracks for movies, record instruments, use software instruments, mix songs, edit music notation, create songs, create podcasts, and export songs to iTunes.
Finally, iDVD allows users to select movies, photos, and audio to import onto a DVD. iDVD also allows users to create menus to organize footage into a polished DVD. The software allows users to preview the footage the way it will look on the DVD before burning the data.
A common theme in the iLife software is that users can use the very basic tools to create a simple product, or they can use the complicated tools to create an intricate product. Using the more complex tools may require more experimenting and researching into the use of the available features.
